Medina Family-Praise story!

Caledonia Village (Corozal District)

Name

Medina Family

Family Members

·      Grandmother

·      Grandfather

·      Adult Daughter

·      Adult Son

·      16 years old (boy)

·      11 years old (boy)

·      5 years old (girl)

Two of the children attend R.C. School in Caledonia. The 16-year-old grandson is out of school.

LIving situation

The Medina family lives on a small lot in the middle of Caledonia Village. Their home is a simple 15×15 stick house with a thatch roof. Because the lot sits in a low area of the village, the house regularly floods when heavy rains come-sometimes up to four feet of water inside the home.

Seven family members were sharing just two beds inside the house.

The grandparents help care for the household, which includes their two adult children and three grandchildren. The family has also lovingly taken in the 16-year-old boy as one of their own.

Their home has:

·      Electricity

·      Water delivered weekly by truck

·      A small yard where they raise chickens

Income

The family’s income is limited and uncertain.

The grandfather works as a sugar cane cutter, earning about $150 BZD per week when work is available. This work is seasonal and typically lasts around six months each year, though last year there were only four months of work.

The adult son works as a fisherman in the village.

The daughter cares for the grandmother and the household, while also cleaning one home per week to earn a small amount of additional income.

Immediate Needs

When asked what would help their family the most, they shared three simple needs:

  • A home that does not leak or flood

  • A bathroom

  • Beds so each family member has a safe place to sleep

A Blessing of Hope

All praise to God for the hands & feet that blessed this family with a new home! We are incredible grateful for the love, dedication, and labor shown by Corozal Belize Ministries, who stepped in to bless this family in an incredible way.

Through their hard work and generosity of their donors, the Medina family received a beautiful, safe, and sturdy zinc home. The team worked diligently for four days to complete the project, transforming what once was an unsafe living situation into a place of security and hope.

We are deeply thankful to have been able to play a small part in witnessing this blessing and in sharing the Medina family’s story.

This new home represents more that shelter-it represents hope, dignity, and a fresh beginning for this family.
